This might be the best district race in the history of the team. There were too many podiums to count and at least 4 state jerseys. The first jersey was won by Josh Vahlberg in the junior 17-18group.Noah Hayes was 2nd,Brian Kalcic 5th, Manny Affonso 10th and Joshua Poshard 11th.
Nate Vahlberg and Dan English came in 2nd and 3rd in the junior 10-14 group.Mac Tomkins was 6th, Cullen Keefe 7th and Ayden Uusitalo 8th.
In the junior girls 10-14 race Shantalle Tupaz got 2nd on her brand new CX bike.
In the junior girls 15-18 Maya Fors got the win.
In the men's open B race, junior Dylan Gong got 4th followed by Kyle Taylor in 13th.
In the 45 B Men's race , veterans Craig Ball ( on a single speed) and Frank Kalcic got 16th and 18th.
In the master's 35 A race junior team co-ordinator Ben Dodge got 10th.
In the 45 A race John Vahlberg came in 27th.
In the 55 A race Greg Foy won by a mile getting his first district jersey,
In the 60 A race Rick Ortenblad rode strong to 8th
In the 65 A race Mark Brown got 3rd and the bronze medal.
Here's Greg foy on the top step.
Kathleen Bortolussi got the bronze in the women's 45+ race
In the women's A race the best showed up and there were some very fast lap times. Campbell Steers made the podium in 5th while Amanda Schaper followed in 7th
We had a mob in the single speed A race-four riders in all , representing less than half of what we will be bringing to the nationals. The results bode well for our chances next weekend.
Brendan Lehman got the win, leading the race wire to wire. Alex work rode a steady race and came in second. Ian Stowe got caught in traffic but still finished 12th while Chris Seymour battled a bad back but finished 14th.
Our sole entrant into the new women's single speed race took home the win- Mary Maroon.
While we did not have our complete roster in the men's A race , we had a very strong showing.
Max Judelson came in 3rd , showing that he will be a factor in the upcoming nationals .
East Coast resident Michael Landry overcame a first lap mechanical to finish a very strong 6th.
Eric Brown persevered on the bumpy course to finish 22nd.
With at least five district jerseys, this could be the best Nor-Cal showing for the team in its 12 year history. What was seen is that the junior team is really coming to the fore as a real national caliber group. This is largely the work of Ben Dodge and all the parents who are supportive of the kids.I think that we will be coming to Reno with the largest team presence at the event. It should be a great experience.
